Geographical location

The Republic of Angola is located in the southwest of Africa and borders Namibia, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The west coast of the country lies directly on the Atlantic Ocean.

The capital of the country, which has been independent since 1975, is Luanda on the west coast. The official language in Angola is Portuguese. However, only 30% of the population speak these languages as their mother tongue. Most of the population speaks African languages, such as Umbundu or Ngangela. Many ethnic groups have developed their own languages and dialects.

According to Luanda with an estimated population of 4 to 5 million people, Cabinda is one of the country’s larger cities with around 250,000 inhabitants. Most tourists need a visa, which you have to apply for at the Angolan embassy in your home country. Luanda can be reached with nonstop connections from several airports in Europa and Africa.

Here, high daytime temperatures of over 25 °C dominate. Even at night it doesn’t cool down very much. The rainy season is from November to April. Precipitation of up to 19.69 in is on the agenda here. In the interior and the south there is a temperate tropical climate. This is characterized by large temperature differences between day and night.

In the months of May to September temperatures of about 20 °C can be found. At night temperatures drop to about 14 °C. The southeast of Angola is dominated by a rather dry and hot climate.
