Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean Sea that belongs to France and has just under 320,000 inhabitants.
It is located some 110 miles south-east of the French mainland and 52 miles west of Italy at the level of Abruzzo. In the south, the neighbouring Italian island of Sardinia is only about 7 miles away.
Corsica, which consists mainly of high mountains, has a coastline around 620 miles long. While the west coast is called the Western Mediterranean, the north is called the Ligurian Sea, while the south and east are called the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Several mountains with more than 2000 meters height, especially the basement mountains in the west of the island, drop steeply in many places only directly at the coast and provide for dramatic landscapes. Highest elevation is Monte Cinto with 2706 meters.
Capital Corsica is the largest city of Ajaccio, whose airport is mainly served by Air France. Ryanair mainly uses Figari Airport near Porto-Vecchio, while German-speaking airlines such as Lufthansa on Corsica use Bastia-Poretta Airport.

When to go to Corsica?
Corsica is an attractive destination all year round. For those seeking peace and quiet, even the mild winter months are worth a recommendation, even if it cools down to 3 °C to 4 °C at night in January, for example. a good travel time. For hiking and for a more active holiday we recommend the spring and autumn months in Corsica. However, increased rainfall is to be expected from October.
For the majority of travellers who long for sunshine and a relaxing holiday at the seaside, summer is, of course, the best time to travel to Corsica in France. From May to the end of September there are 9 to 12 hours of sunshine per day, the Mediterranean Sea is pleasantly suitable for swimming from the end of May. The high summer months of July and August are therefore particularly popular, and June and September are also the island’s best travel season.
